Grace Weaver (click here for full biography/CV) was born 1989 in Vermont, she lives and works in New York. Weaver’s artistic practice aims to contribute a “girly” perspective to the history of large-scale oil painting. Mostly picturing multi-figure scenes, each of her compositions depends on a tightly managed under-painting whose forms rhyme and interlock to create the effect of a broad candy-colored tessellation. Within the discourse of painting, Weaver’s ambition is to contribute a voice that fuses art historical and pop cultural references into a new language that is emphatically feminine, championing the aesthetics of cuteness, whimsy, and girliness.
Weaver graduated with an MFA from the Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond in 2015. Her recent solo exhibitions include Teenage Dream at Thierry Goldberg Gallery (NY, 2015) and The Interior Landscape at Dakshina Chitra (Tamil Nadu, 2012). Weaver has been awarded with grants and residencies including a VCUARTS Dean’s Graduate Research Grant (2014), Artist-in-Residence at DakshinaChitra, (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 2012) and the Burlington City Arts’ ArtLab residency (Burlington, VT, 2012). In September 2015 Grace Weaver’s opened her first solo show in Germany at Soy Capitán.
