Grace Weaver • Berlin Art Week • 04.09.–24.10.2026

Soy Capitán, Berlin is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Berlin-based artist Grace Weaver, opening September 4, 6–8 pm.

Rendered inside domestic interiors, Weaver’s tall, sloping protagonists animate the small ceremonies of everyday life. Solitary figures and couples sit on low and high-backed chairs, hold amphorae, gather around a table or raise a glass – bodies echoing the vessels themselves. These familiar scenes unfold with the measured cadence of ritual. Held strictly frontal or in profile, the figures carry the composure of Mycenaean and ancient Near Eastern seals and reliefs. Behind them, coloured stripes hint at panelled walls or doorways – abstract notations of interior life that dissolve into painterly fields. As in Homer and Joyce, meaning here resides in the repeated gestures of the ordinary, inviting us to encounter, for the millionth time, the reality of experience.

Grace Weaver (born 1989 in Vermont) lives and works in Berlin. She graduated with an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, in 2015.

Solo exhibitions include ‘Prélude’ at Kunstmuseum Magdeburg (2026); ‘Grace Weaver I’ and ‘Grace Weaver II’ at Neues Museum, Nürnberg, in 2023 and 2024; ‘Painters and Portraits’ at Yuz Museum, Shanghai, in 2023; ‘O.K.’ at Kunstpalais Erlangen in 2019, and ‘Little Sister’ at Oldenburger Kunstverein in 2019.

Her work is included in the permanent collections of Städel Museum, Frankfurt; Yuz Foundation, Shanghai; FRAC des Pays de la Loire; and ARoS Aarhus Art Museum.

The exhibition is presented jointly with Galerie Max Hetzler, Charlottenburg, with both galleries opening new exhibitions by Grace Weaver on September 4.
