Paloma Proudfoot’s solo show is currently running at The Approach in London. “The Voice of the Play” can be seen until 30 March 2024.
The exhibition is based on Proudfoot’s research into hysteria, previously defined as a disease, and its treatment in hospitals in Paris during the 19th century. The artist addresses the patients’ lack of autonomy and, through the works, imagines what their stories might have looked like if they had the power to tell them.
